File monitors
ComplianceBuilder / File monitors any file-based system for file changes: adds, deletes and modifications. Upon detecting a file change, CB / File stores the file version in a secure Data Repository. You have complete flexibility in setting up your "Managed Folders" file-monitoring program: by specific directory, by workstation or file server, by file type.
CB / File issues and routes File Change Notifications to a specified user or group of users. If acknowledgement and authenticated sign-off are required, CB / File prompts the user.
End-users can view specific file versions via CB / File's Web Interface. You can "browse" Managed Directories and folders and either open a file version on-screen or download it to your workstation. You can also display file attributes or file metadata, and run file comparisons.
You can restrict user access to pre-defined Windows application files while permitting selected users to access the application after providing authenticated login credentials.
CB / File retains a secure audit trail of all monitored file activity. Standard reporting displays the file audit trail for a time period you specify.

File Version Comparison Plug-ins
You can install application-specific plug-ins that enable CB / File's "Compare" functionality. You just choose the two files you want to compare, and CB / File will generate a comparison report highlighting the files' differences. Plug-ins are available for Microsoft Excel and Word, and for any text file. Additional application-specific plug-ins can be developed and delivered to suit your specific requirements. Extended Media File Archival and Retrieval The ComplianceBuilder "Archive" is an add-on that can be configured to automatically archive aged file versions to permanent data storage media, ranging from DVDs in a jukebox to complete Storage Management solutions. Archived files are removed from local storage, thereby freeing up operating space. The archive is retrievable on demand in a way that is transparent to the end-user: ComplianceBuilder simply sends a media request to the storage repository and makes the requested files available to the operator's workstation.

File Change Notifications
Whenever a file is added, modified or deleted in a managed directory, CB / File issues a Notification that pops up in the CBAgent window on designated user workstations.You can specify whether notification sign-off is required, and how long CB / File should wait before it "times-'out" an un-acknowledged notification.

Application Segregation and Data Integrity.Secure
CB / File provides a mechanism for configuring special links that enable file access protection. The Application Security feature can deny direct user access to application files while still allowing the applications themselves to have file access. For example, you can permit Windows applications to write data to specific text files or Access databases, but deny or limit direct user access to those files. With authenticated logons, users may access selected applications and perform file maintenance.
